Frequently Asked Questions

There are two main types of dentures, and they’re the following:

  • Complete dentures: This replaces all the teeth in your mouth. Hence, your dentist will suggest this option if all your teeth are missing.
  • Partial dentures: Partial dentures are removable, custom-made prosthetic devices used to replace one or more teeth. They may be made of acrylic or metal or a combination of both.

You need to review the following factors before deciding which is the best option for you:

  • Age: Younger people should choose implants because this is a more permanent solution. In essence, they have a few decades to enjoy their prosthetic teeth. Older people should go for dentures, especially those who don’t like to undergo invasive and tedious procedures.
  • Bone density: Implants need a specific jawbone material to support the teeth posts. If you lack this material due to tooth loss, gum disease, age, or injury, it’s best to pass on implants.
  • Feel and function: Implants are more comfortable to use and chew with than dentures.
  • Hygiene: If you’re unlikely to spend time caring for your dentures, go for implants. The latter may be pricier, but it’s low maintenance.

Here are the things you can expect while wearing dentures the first time:

  • They might feel loose or odd initially, but as soon as your tongue and cheek muscles get accustomed, they’ll feel more comfortable.
  • You might feel minor soreness or irritation, but these will subside once you’ve adjusted.
  • Eating might take some practice, too.

You can reintroduce solid foods once your mouth starts to get comfortable with your dentures. Typically, it may take 3–4 weeks before it’s safe to eat solid or harder foods after getting dentures. But ensure to start slowly with bite-sized pieces and easy-to-chew foods.

You may feel pain wearing temporary dentures after having your teeth extracted. But painkillers will help alleviate the pain and make you feel comfortable during the early stages of the healing period.

Avoid making adjustments to your dentures on your own. Adjusting your dentures at home can cause false teeth to break. If you’re dealing with any issues with your dentures, have them adjusted by your dentist.

Got my teeth whiting kit done with Mack, and had absolutely amazing service and experience. Mack was great and the product they sell is worth every penny. I was worried about any sensitivity my teeth would experience using the product and I had none, I was shocked! Thank you Koster Dental team!

I would highly recommend Andy to anyone getting dentures. Very honest and informative so I was comfortable with the whole process. Andy also sent me back to surgeon as he saw issues and this made a huge difference in fit. The look is fantastic and I am very pleased.
